Real Madrid manager José Mourinho discussed Endrick's lack of minutes this season in an interview before the team faced Roma. In an interview before the press conference, Mourinho was asked about the lack of minutes that Endrick has received to start the season.
To put it simply, it has not been the best of times for the Brazilian at the club. Even last season, he was playing much more. Even last season, when he wasn't playing for the club, he was given more minutes than he has now. The hope is that the minutes improve and Endrick is able to become a big part of the first team sooner rather than later.
When asked about the minutes restriction, Mourinho said: "Endrick suffered an injury after pre-season that kept him out for more than a month, about 45 weeks, which kept him out of the start of the season.
Endrick can still be important for Real Madrid this season
“It is true that I did not give him a proper chance after his recovery and against Villarreal. Fortunately for us and unfortunately for him, he was about to come on, and then he scored the goal.
“He and Bernardo were about to come on at the very moment he scored the goal. With us winning and playing with 10 men, it is natural for the coach to change his mind and have other options. I do not think he needs to go on, though, and I think he will be very successful here at Real Madrid."
Mourinho's words are interesting. The very fact that he has accepted the number of minutes that the player has played, and the fact that he has talked about Endrick being very close to coming on against Villarreal, shows that Mourinho is at least honest with his players and the media. It also shows that Endrick is still in the Portuguese manager's plans.
Obviously, having only played 3 minutes so far this season, you cannot say Endrick will be a very happy man. There are still 2 months to go before the start of the transfer window in January, and it is very much possible that Endrick gets a substantial amount of minutes for Real Madrid before then.
Saying all of this right before the game against Roma might mean that, depending on the game state, Endrick will probably make an appearance on Wednesday, but it will be something that we will have to wait and see.
Endrick is a very talented player who can provide a lot to this Real Madrid team. Hopefully, for him and for the club, he starts playing a good amount of minutes as soon as possible, because a talent like him does not come by very often. When one does, the club has to make sure that they are able to keep him around for the foreseeable future and help him develop as a football player.
