Real Madrid are backing Jose Mourinho to a far, far greater extent than they ever did Alvaro Arbeloa or Xabi Alonso, and even legendary Champions League winners Zinedine Zidane and Carlo Ancelotti never received this kind of care from president Florentino Perez - and they were also taking over the club at various points when Madrid were teetering on crisis.
So far, Florentino Perez has already done a lot to back Mourinho. He has brought him one of the best right backs in the world in reigning Serie A champion Denzel Dumfries. And with Mourinho wanting to vastly upgrade the defense with a special view on the center backs, Perez went in and swooped for Ibrahima Konate on a free from Liverpool, reviving old interest in the Frenchman.
But Mourinho understandably wants more, to the surprise of nobody. According to a report from MARCA, Jose Mourinho wants to sign one more world class center back to join forces with Ibrahima Konate (and Eder Militao, who is still world class when he is healthy).
Mourinho wants to load up
Real Madrid would go from a massive weakness to a massive strength if they can add one more elite center back to the fold. Mourinho will surely be dreaming of Denzel Dumfries's Inter Milan teammate Alessandro Bastoni, and Real Madrid could use that left footed option. But Real are also watching hybrid center and left back options Josko Gvardiol and Riccardo Calafiori; in an ideal world, they would be able to sign one of each for Mourinho, though they do not have infinite money or squad space.
Imagine if Real Madrid were able to sign Calafiori and Bastoni together. Real would then have Eder Militao, Antonio Rudiger, Dean Huijsen, Ibrahima Konate, Alessandro Bastoni, and Riccardo Calafiori as six amazing center back options. That is probably too much and too many people who would not get to play, though if Calafiori is factored in as a left back option and Militao's injury history and Rudiger's lability are accounted for, then Bastoni and Konate are the nailed on starters with Huijsen and Rudiger the backups - Militao and Calafiori then become luxury players.
Whatever the case, Real Madrid are going to back Jose Mourinho to the fullest, and if the Portuguese manager wants another world class central defender to add to the Merengue back four (or back three hybrid, which would necessitate more central defenders, of course), then Florentino Perez is not going to stand in his way.
