Jose Mourinho was right to call out Jude Bellingham's disgustingly low Ballon d'Or ranking

Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham was ranked number 11 in the Ballon d'Or race, which was an absolute shock to the system of most Real Madrid fans. Even though it wasn't the best season that Bellingham has had at Real Madrid, it was far from the worst, and he had an unbelievable World Cup campaign to back his claim to at least be a top 10 player in the race.

Mourinho was asked about it in the press conference before the game against Racing Club on Sunday, and his answer was simply, "No comment." It showed his huge disapproval of the disgustingly low ranking that the Englishman has received from people who have voted. Bellingham, at the very least, is a top five player in the world. He has shown multiple times in the past that he is the most complete player in the world, as well as one of the most consistently good players to play the game in this day and age.

Jude Bellingham deserved a top-five place in the Ballon d'Or rankings

Last season, he was coming off the back of a difficult time at Real Madrid from a collective sense, but if we look at his individual performances, no matter which role and position he was playing in, Bellingham was usually always quite good for the club. He was fighting in every single game that Real Madrid played him in and was one of the team's better performers on a very consistent basis.

Just because he did not reach the standards that he has set for himself during his time at the club does not mean he was awful or wasn't deserving of a higher place than 11th in the race.

Let's not forget that Lionel Messi finished fifth in the race purely because of his performances in the World Cup. If Messi was fifth and he was a top-two player at the competition, and Bellingham was probably the third-best player at the competition, he deserved to be around the same ranking as the Argentine player, purely based on the World Cup campaign.

When you add the already good season he had on top of it, that basically means he should have been above Messi in the rankings. Because of one reason or the other, he simply wasn't. It makes no sense. It was clear to everyone that Jude Bellingham was England's best player during the World Cup, even better than Ballon d'Or winner Harry Kane. If Mbappé was the best player of the World Cup and Messi was second, Bellingham was probably third, just above Rodri, who also finished in fourth place.

It just makes absolutely no sense to not even have him in the top 10 of the rankings when he is so clearly better than most of the players in that race. Bellingham will obviously want to be higher in the rankings the next time, and the way he has started the season, he is probably in contention to win it as well. Whether that actually happens or whether he gets robbed of a higher ranking once again, that is yet to be determined.
