Real Madrid are going to push harder for Enzo Fernandez soon, and after the 2026 World Cup is over, whenever that happens to be for tournament favorites and reigning champions Argentina, Los Merengues figure to accelerate their interest in the Chelsea midfielder.
Fernandez is one of the best deep lying midfielders in world football, and although he does not always get to show it for Chelsea, the control he exerts over games for Argentina and Lionel Messi has been impossible to ignore at two World Cups now.
But in order to sign a player rated over 120 million euros by Chelsea - and whom their new manager Xabi Alonso does not want to sell - Real Madrid know they need to make at least one major sale. Chelsea are interested in Real's own No. 6 Aurelien Tchouameni as a replacement for Fernandez, but his French midfield partner Eduardo Camavinga is widely seen as the more expendable of the two.
Real Madrid have to sell a midfielder this summer
According to a report from Miguel Serrano, via the Madrid Zone, Jose Mourinho is about to deliver the gut punch to Camavinga that the former Rennes prospect has been fearing. Cama knows that Real Madrid are trying to facilitate his departure, but he and his camp have been blocking the move since the player loves Madrid and still believes he can succeed there. But reportedly, Mourinho is going to tell Camavinga that he will not have a big role in the team this season regardless and that his departure can happen.
Florentino Perez has taken a liking to Camavinga over the years, and he signed him for a bargain price in 2021 when he was the world's biggest midfield prospect. Cama immediately played a crucial role off the bench in the first Champions League title of the post Cristiano Ronaldo era and then won another in 2023/24, but he has failed to truly develop into a star over time.
Real Madrid need to sell someone, though, and given Jose Mourinho has also shown interest in other big midfielders like Mateus Fernandes, it stands to reason that the Royal Whites could sell both Aurelien Tchoaumeni and Camavinga for, hopefully, close to 150 million euros combined in order to either afford Enzo Fernandez outright or have a little cash left over - or pay a little extra - for another blockbuster midfielder. Regardless, Mourinho does not seem to value Camavinga, and his days may be numbered.
