Jude Bellingham was brilliant for Real Madrid in their 2-1 win over Barcelona on Thursday, and despite not registering a goal or an assist, he was able to show exactly what Real Madrid fans know he can provide.
Bellingham was easily one of the best players on the football pitch on the night, as he pulled the strings for Real Madrid in their biggest win of the season. He was involved in the winner where he pulled off some Zidane-type nonsense to retain the ball exquisitely, before playing a beautiful backheel pass to Eduardo Camavinga, who eventually became the provider to Kylian Mbappe.
It was a truly mesmerising performance, and he played like a midfielder in the truest sense of the word. In fact, Bellingham completely obliterated the entirety of Barcelona's midfield in one statistic, which is actually quite embarrassing for them.
Jude Bellingham completely dominated Barcelona's midfield
Bellingham won 13 duels against Barcelona, a number that was considerably higher than those won by Barcelona's entire midfield combined (nine). Yep, all by himself - Bellingham is that good.
Real Madrid fans knew this already, but Bellingham is the best midfielder on planet Earth right now. He is certainly the most complete one, too, and he proved just how dominant he can be against the best in the world.
In a team that had duel-winners like Rodri, and, to a lesser extent, Pedri and Fermin Lopez, Bellingham was able to easily manhandle the entire trio and beat them in the most midfield-like statistic there is.
Bellingham was not taking no for an answer in that game. He would rather fall down and protect the ball in front of his opponents than ever lose a duel, and that showed on the statsheet as well. Defensively, too, Bellingham was upsetting players like Pedri and Lamine Yamal on numerous occasions, completely showcasing his dominance on the football pitch.
To many outside of Real Madrid fans, he is a glorified goalscorer, but in reality, at least for those who actually watch football, Bellingham is probably the most complete player in football right now. There is nothing on the football pitch that he cannot do, and he has already proven that for club and country this season.
All of this is nothing new to Bellingham, for what it is worth. He has been doing this for the longest time. In most of Real Madrid's games, he is the best player on the pitch, and sometimes, people take notice. Other times, they try to form false narratives about him that are not true at all. And then, Bellingham plays a monumental game, and kills all those narratives in one go.
