So many Real Madrid players have been rightfully criticised as of late for their performances, especially after the loss to Atletico Madrid in the league on Sunday.
There were so many expectations on them to perform well against the club’s city rivals, knowing fully well the way they were defeated one year ago.
However, this time, even though the scoreline was smaller, it still felt the exact same way. Looking at all of these players, it felt like most of these players had no idea what kind of game they were in. They were rightfully criticised for just that.
However, Jude Bellingham is one of the very few players who is exempt from that bit of criticism.

Real Madrid have massively struggled in these games because of Atletico Madrid’s sheer physicality, but Bellingham cannot be put into that same bracket. He was the only outfield player who actually understood the kind of game he was playing. Rather than playing safe passes and not going into duels, Bellingham was always giving it large to Atletico players, barging into tackles, playing dirty, aggressive football.
Even if you, for one second, put that aside, Bellingham also played better than all of his teammates. He was the only player who seemed upset about the way his team was playing, and how they were losing to their city rivals. He was the only one who played well, who tried to dribble past players without fear in the hopes of making things happen.
Real Madrid struggled to have even a little bit of personality in the match, but whatever they did have came through Bellingham, because he fully understood what the match should mean to the players.
He was also trying his best to help his teammates in tough moments, trying to push them while also trying to talk to them like a leader should.
He is one of the youngest players on the team, but you could probably say he is one of the only players who deserves the title of a leader.
Bellingham leads by example as well as vocally, which is a profile that this team has been missing for a very long time.
Things still look quite bad for Real Madrid, but at least they have a couple of players whom they can rely on. They will have bad performances here and there, but they can’t be blamed for not giving their all, because that always happens with Bellingham.
