Jude Bellingham, without a shadow of doubt, was the best player on the pitch against Real Sociedad, despite Kylian Mbappe’s brilliant hat-trick to give the team the win.

The Englishman looked like the best version of himself despite not having a full pre-season under his belt, and everything worked like clockwork through him. He had two brilliant assists, four chances, as well as some other brilliant statistics that, as always, will go unnoticed.

People keep talking about Bellingham as a midfielder whose only role is to score goals for the team. They call him a box crasher, and don’t really realise the other brilliant things he does on the pitch. Some have even said he is not a midfielder at all, and he should play as a striker.

And, as always, Bellingham keeps dispelling that myth for the entire footballing world to see.

Jude Bellingham is a midfielder through and through - and is the most complete player on Earth

Bellingham is a midfielder first, and then a goalscorer. There have been midfielders in the past who score an impressive number of goals, but also contribute to other facets of the game. Bellingham is no less. Actually, Bellingham could probably become the best to ever do this kind of role.

At the moment, he is probably the most complete player in the world, and people are not ready to understand that. Tell me how a player, in his first season as a midfielder for Real Madrid, leads the team in goals as well as blocks, if all he did was score tap-ins.

Everyone sees his name in the scoring charts, and see him get into great goalscoring positions inside the box and assume that is all he does. That could not be farther from the truth.

Bellingham, against Real Sociedad, had a pure midfielder’s performance. He had two assists, two tackles, won nine duels, created four chances, completed three dribbles, and contributed to every single phase of the pitch.

When Real Madrid needed a midfielder to win the ball near the edge of their own box, he was there. When they wanted someone to lead the press, Bellingham took the initiative. When they needed individual brilliance to create chances, he did it effortlessly. He won the ball in so many dangerous areas, and worked incredibly hard in the process.

There is not a single midfielder who does what he does, while also contributing to every phase of the pitch like him. Bellingham is easily the most important Real Madrid player at the moment, and it should be obvious that goalscoring is just the start of what he provides the team with.
