Real Madrid superstar Jude Bellingham has had two games where he has not scored or assisted a single goal, but even his biggest haters cannot say that he has been bad in either of these games.
Obviously, Bellingham could have done better against Real Betis – and the same can be said about the rest of the team – but even in that performance, he was one of Real Madrid’s more positive players.
Against Inter, even though he did not provide his side with a goal or an assist, Bellingham did everything else absolutely perfectly. There were so many points where Jude Bellingham realised he was sorely needed in his team’s half to support his teammates defensively, and as always, the Englishman obliged.
People should realise one thing about Bellingham, and it is that he is a midfielder primarily. Bellingham is a brilliant midfielder first, and an incredibly impressive goalscorer after. He is not a goalscorer who can defend and distribute the ball, it is the other way around.
Jude Bellingham is a midfielder first
Bellingham did not have a lot to do going forward, apart from the one chance he was mad at himself for missing. However, there were so many brilliant defensive interventions that the Englishman had. He was covering for Trent Alexander-Arnold’s midfielder deficiencies perfectly. There were many points where he was on the edge of the Real Madrid box trying to win the ball back as soon as possible. Real Madrid really needed his guidance and leadership, and he delivered as always.
Even in advanced areas of the pitch without the ball, Bellingham was always there for the team and was consistently marking his man to his absolute best. His passing, dribbling and ball retention was also on point, and it further proves the point I am trying to make.
That is what the best players do. If they cannot score or assist, they force themselves into the game and do whatever is needed for their team to get the win, and Bellingham does that every single time he steps on the pitch.
There will be so many more games like this where he does not score or assist, because that is something that cannot always happen. However, there likely won’t be a single game where Bellingham does not give his absolute best on both ends of the pitch. That is what serial winners do, and Bellingham is no less.
