It has been wild looking back at the comments people have made about Real Madrid superstar attacking midfielder Jude Bellingham. There were Madrid fans who slagged him off, members of the English media who did not think he should make the World Cup squad, and the most infamous of them all, Barcelona fans who said that Jude wasn't even a real midfielder and cannot be a playmaker.
They acted like he was a big man striker and not a real midifelder, just because he was so good at scoring goals, especially against them, as he competed with legendary striker Robert Lewandowski in the 2023/24 season when he won the La Liga title - and Champions League - in his first season at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Anyone who acted as though Bellingham was not a real world class midfielder on at least as high of a plane as Pedri, Rodri, or anyone else - and even higher, as his dominant World Cup in all phases showed - is seriously deluded and has been proven wrong badly.
Barcelona fans were totally wrong about Jude Bellingham
Bellingham has scored a couple of goals through the first three games of the 2026/27 La Liga season under Jose Mourinho, but in that starting No. 10 role again for Real Madrid, Jude is doing a lot more than just score the goals now that he is back to being closer to the opposition penalty area.
Even in the advanced areas of the pitch, Bellingham is still absolutely killing it defensively with his pressing, tracking back, and ball winning, and in addition to recovering the ball, he is carrying it expertly, eating up space and, yes, creating chances for his teammates.
Barcelona fans spent years deriding Bellingham as overrated and acting as though he had no technical ability and that only players who have the playing style of Pedri could possibly be valuabel in the middle of the park, pretending as if Jude was some sort of an oversized goof in the middle of the park.
But those accuasions of him only being more of a striker or a fake midfielder who just farmed tap ins could not have been further from the truth. Jude did it all, once more, for the England national team as the perfect all around midfielder at the World Cup, and he is only doing it all over again for Real Madrid already this season. Barcelona fans are going to have to find a new Madrid star to pick on.
