Almost nobody at Real Madrid has covered themselves in glory this season, and even the fan favorites need to be held accountable and hold themselves to a higher standard on and off the pitch after now going through three managers in the span of a calendar year with Carlo Ancelotti, Xabi Alonso, and Alvaro Arbeloa all paying the cardinal sin of not winning enough for the Merengues while dealing with an increasingly fractured and selfish locker room.
But as time has gone on, and after his antics at the press conference to sully a rare Real Madrid win, Kylian Mbappe has highlighted himself more and more as a big part of the problem behind the scenes, just as he did at PSG until Luis Enrique finally grew tired of him.
Mbappe spent the entire post game sulking after being booed by the Real Madrid fans for the pent up frustrations over the last two years since his hyped arrival from Paris, as well as their feeling that he abandoned them to go on vacation and then bailed out of traveling to El Clasico in the title decider against Barcelona over the weekend. Mbappe also warred with manager Alvaro Arbeloa and threw his teammates under the bus, bringing up an old loss to Albacete in the Copa del Rey.
Jude Bellingham was there for the Madridistas
Meanwhile, Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior, just as they did against Barcelona and have every time since arriving in the Spanish capital, faced the music. Bellingham has only been here a few years, but even when he is having a disappointing time like this season, he is still not afraid to face the music.
Bellingham was seen blowing kisses to the fans, applauding the Santiago Bernabeu, and apologizing to them. Even though Real Madrid won and Bellingham played well, the apology was for this entire trophyless season, sealed by the club's terrible showing against Barcelona.
That is how a Madridista should act. As much as the media and a few Madrid fans (mostly Mbappe cultists) have tried to paint Bellingham as a bad teammate and a rabblerouser behind the scenes, the press conference by Mbappe and his lack of acknowledgment of the fans after they booed him juxtaposed with Jude Bellingham's reaction to the fans makes it clear.
Bellingham plays for the fans, responds to the fans, and demands better of himself. He is a true Madridista, and while it seems like a small gesture and a small moment, these are the little things the long time Madridistas and the ones who pay to watch the games at the Bernabeu most weeks pick up on. These things matter a lot.
