Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez has been a hot topic this summer when it comes to his future at the Wanda Metropolitano. He has been linked with a move to both Real Madrid and Barcelona, with Real going as far as to make a €150 million bid that was shut down immediately. Atletico have been adamant that the striker won't be going anywhere this summer, however, Alvarez seems to have different plans in mind.
Following Argentina's 2-0 win over Austria, Julian Alvarez took time to talk to the media and dropped a bombshell regarding his future, and made a statement that could raise some red flags for Real Madrid. Alvarez went on to say:
"I can’t keep hiding or pretending. I’m trying to be an honest person.Julian Alvarez
I spoke to the people at the club that I needed to speak to.
I want to fulfill my dream. The best thing for my future is a transfer."
Julian Alvarez keeps raising red flags for Los Blancos
While some may read these comments from Alvarez as nothing more than a player expressing his desire to take the next step in his career, when looking a bit deeper into what he's saying and how he said it, from the perspective of Real Madrid Alvarez has raised a number of red flags to consider when thinking about whether or not to make a move for him this summer.
Firstly the most obvious would be when it comes to positioning on the pitch. With Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr already in the attack, Alvarez isn't better than what Real Madrid already have, especially for the ridiculous price tag Atleti will charge. Across his two seasons with Atleti, he's grabbed 49 goals and 17 assists across 106 appearances, which is nearly 40 goals short of what Kylian Mbappe has managed in less appearances while playing in the same position, so adding him to an attack that already produces better numbers wouldn't make much sense in the grand scheme of things.
Secondly, Real Madrid are interested in a number of other attacking player like Michael Olise in particular, who would add far more to the attack than Alvarez ever could, so splashing the cash on the Frenchman would make more sense than splashing it on the Argentine as it would fix more of the issues that Real are experiencing.
And finally it's almost the tone of his delivery that could put off Real Madrid from considering his signing. Alvarez comes off as somewhat ungrateful towards Atleti and if he's willing to betray Atleti like this after just two seasons, and with how quickly he was willing to leave Manchester City, who's to say he would have any allegiance or commitment to Real Madrid should he join them.
