For Real Madrid one of the hottest talking points of the summer was Vinicius Jr and his future at the club. The Brazilian had strong interest from Arsenal and was even considering the move before ultimately inking a new long-term deal, keeping him at the Bernabeu until 2032 with many believing the problems between Vinicius and Real Madrid were finally settled, but unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case.
Despite the new lucrative deal and the freedom he gets under Jose Mourinho, we are still seeing some of the same problems we were seeing from Vinicius last season, and with the new season just getting under way, it could all snowball as the season goes on and become an even bigger detriment to the team in a few months time.
New season, same Vinicius, same headaches for Real Madrid
We all remember the antics and issues we saw from Vinicius under Xabi Alonso in the early stages of last season. The complaining, the temper tantrums, the lack in willingness to defend, the same old same old. Many expected that to change under Jose Mourinho, who has a history of being a strict manager, but we are still seeing the same Vini, which could become worrying fast.
Many believed the new contract would finally put the Brazilian at ease and help to get the best out of him once again, but we are still seeing the same problems we saw last season. The Brazilian still isn't fully enthused about tracking back and doing his defensive work, and in Real's 2-1 win over Inter Milan this week, he took more than 10 seconds to exit the pitch, meaning his replacement, Alvaro Carreras had to wait a minute before coming on as per the new rules, and Inter almost went down and scored while Real were down a man. Had Inter scored, it could be pinpointed right to Vinicius and his lackadaisical attitude at the end of the match.
Much like when he got substituted by Xabi Alonso in El Clasico last season and threw a temper tantrum, he looked upset about being taken off here and had to be consoled and talked to by Jose Mourinho as he made his way to the bench, still showing signs that his antics could prove to be a detriment to the team as a whole once again this season.
While were still only five games into the season and it could be labeled an overreaction, the Brazilian just doesn't look up to it this season. He looks out of shape, lacking in confidence, and overall just not interested in anyone but Vinicius. Jose Mourinho has a plethora of attacking talent to choose from so if Vinicius doesn't step up his game fast, it would be in the teams best interest to put him on the bench and try something new as to not risk falling behind while trying to please Vinicius an dmake only him happy.
