Kylian Mbappe is no longer untouchable at Real Madrid

The scenes at the Valdebebas are becoming increasingly bitter, and all the frustrations of another trophyless season boiled over on Thursday night. Nobody is talking about the 2-0 win for Real Madrid over Real Oviedo with young striker Gonzalo Garcia the Man of the Match and protagonist as the opening goal scorer, but rather the conversation is about Kylian Mbappe going into business for himself.

Just as he did at PSG, the Frenchman made it about himself, taking the spotlight away from the starter, Garcia, and instead lashing out at the manager Alvaro Arbeloa as a punishment for daring to leave him on the bench just four days after he was scratched from the Barcelona game with an apparent injury in the final training session.

Mbappe's commitment to the team has been called into further question after his disparaging comments against Arbeloa and even his teammates, invoking the fact that they lost the Copa del Rey without him but making no mention of all the games that were won without him, including against Manchester City in the Champions League.

Kylian Mbappe is not above the club

It seems even those behind the scenes who defended him at Real Madrid are fed up. Per a report from Diario AS, via the Madrid Zone, while the club do consider Kylian Mbappe to be a key player, they do not consider him untouchable. The report mentions the fates of Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos and states that if those guys left Madrid, the club are not against drastic measures with Mbappe if things do not improve with the Frenchman in their ranks. The priority for Real Madrid is to restore order and control over the team, and they will do anything to get back to their values as a club.

That means if Mbappe continues to run roughshod over the locker room, openly disrespects the coaches, and does not get on the same page, Real Madrid will facilitate his move out of the Spanish capital. It is an abrupt change in narrative from what was said before, and while the overall sentiment from the offices of Florentino Perez, as relayed by the Spanish media, remains one of wanting to make things work with Mbappe, his departure is no longer considered the impossibility that it was a mere year ago.

Now that is a natural consequence of not winning anything for two years in a row at Real Madrid - Intercontinental Cups notwithstanding - while openly disrespecting the club. And after a win, no less. Mbappe has to shape up.
