Kylian Mbappe has refuted claims that Xabi Alonso lost the dressing room following Real Madrid's decision to sack him last Monday (January 12th). The club's shock decision came after a 3-2 loss to Barcelona in the Supercopa de Espana final.
Alonso's departure was claimed to have been a "mutual agreement" but various reports claim he was dismissed. He oversaw 24 wins in 34 games but couldn't guide Madrid to the Supercopa trophy.
Reports claimed that Mbappe flew to Saudi Arabia to try and "save" Alonso's job by helping him beat Barca in the final. He has now given his take on his former manager's exit and suggested there was no rift in the camp.
Mbappe's comments on Alonso exit
Mbappe was in red-hot form throughout Alonso's seven-month reign, bagging 30 goals in 28 games. He was let off the lease during their time together and relished leading the line.
The 27-year-old has responded to rumors of issues behind the scenes between the Spanish coach and his players. He said (via Fabrizio Romano):
“We didn’t have any problem with Xabi Alonso. To say that Xabi wasn't successful isn't true. He left before the titles were won. We only lost the Supercopa with him. Xabi, in my opinion, will be a fantastic coach. I had a great relationship with him”.

Mbappe did seem to have a good experience working under Alonso and there were no suggestions he grew disillusioned. That hasn't been the case with Vinicius Junior who even Romano claimed wasn't on good terms with the 44-year-old.
Alonso always spoke glowingly of Mbappe

Alonso and Mbappe seemed an ideal player and coach link-up with the Spaniard focused on making the France captain the talisman of his team. He reaped the rewards from a goalscoring perspective.
Mbappe's 10th goal of the season came against Getafe in October when there were no concerns over Alonso's future. His manager spoke at the time about what the French striker brings to his side (via FotMob):
"I would say that we are very happy with him. He is being decisive with his goals and with his participation. But there are many other things behind his goals. They are all important."
Mbappe's form was faultless during Alonso's tenure but that wasn't the case with Vinicius who came off the boil. The Brazilian stuttered, enduring an 18-game goal drought before scoring in the Supercopa final defeat to Barca.
Alonso and Vinicius never seemed to see eye to eye especially whenever the Brazilian winger saw his coach had decided to sub him off. While Mbappe has suggested there were no such issues, there's no arguing that there were problems between his teammate and the Spaniard.
