Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe is back to making the Madridistas proud after a difficult finish to the 2025/26 season, as he has been the outstanding player of the 2026 World Cup thus far, sealing even more records with a goal and an assist in a comfortable 2-0 victory for France over Morocco, becoming the first ever player in the history of the World Cup to have two tournaments with at least ten total goal contributions; he now has 11 this summer.

Mbappe was dazzling against Morocco, avenging an unfair ploy in which the referees unnerved him from the spot by taking an insane amount of time to review a clear cut penalty. The Real Madrid man scored a pinpoint curler that beat the world class Bono all ends up, then he drew in the defense and set Ousmane Dembele up for another assist this World Cup.

Late in the game, Mbappe was taken off and in visible pain after absorbing cheap blows from the Moroccan players, who were frustrated and desperate to make their mark in a World Cup quarterfinal that the favorites France were totally dominating. The blows were, in a way, more harmful and dangerous than the shenanigans Paraguay were displaying in the Round of 16 vs. Les Bleus.

So Real Madrid - and the world, really - waited holding their breath for an update from Kylian Mbappe on any potential injury, and they were able to receive resassurance from the sudden 2026 Ballon d'Or favorite.

Mbappe told reporters after the win, via Madrid Xtra, "I'm fine! I took a hit to the ankle, but everything's okay. Mateta was more ready than me to play the last 15 minutes."

The emphatic response is exactly the all clear Real Madrid fans needed to hear about one of their most prized superstars and exactly what the French national team needed to hear about their talisman. Mbappe has grown into a true leader this tournament, guiding France and becomiong now belovedly referred to as the "Dictator", rather than it being derogatory.

Next up for the fully healthy Mbappe will be either Spain, who have his new teammate at left back Marc Cucurella, or underdogs Belgium in their own Last Dance, boasting another teammate of his in legendary goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. And though Mbappe has all love for Tibo, he would wish to add the Giraffe to his list of World Cup victims. There is no injury worry here.
