Kylian Mbappe proved Alvaro Arbeloa right in a way he didn't expect

Real Madrid were able to defeat historical rivals Sevilla 1-0 in La Liga to back three more useless points in a title race they already lost to Barcelona last week, but what is far more useful is the positive momentum the players can carry with them when Jose Mourinho arrives for the 2026/27 season, as well as the individual players boosting their confidence with better displays.

But after his big tirade against Alvaro Arbeloa and his blatant disrespect of the club, Kylian Mbappe somewhat surprisingly started against Sevilla. What was less surprising was watching the self centered Frenchman further expose himself as the biggest problem for Los Blancos.

Mbappe was horrible. He had nothing to do with the first goal, which was scored by Vinicius Junior and truly created by Jude Bellingham (the actual stars of this team), and he cost his team several goals with his usual selfishness. Not passing to open teammates, holding onto the ball for an eternity, and either blatantly missing or waiting so long to pull the trigger on the shot that the defense simply took it off him.

Kylian Mbappe was rubbish against Sevilla

The club's highest paid player was offsides more than he had a shot on target despite shooting a whopping five times, dwarfing the amount of times the others on Real Madrid went for goal. By the way, he had zero shots on target. He lost the ball five times with unforced errors and completed zero dribbles, with his one chance created, once again, more statistical quirk than actual quality on his part.

Real Madrid fans are starting to go through Mbappe's games more closely, and they are realizing that the goals he was scoring were due to high usage rate and shot volume rather than quality. And it seems like his ego and performances are getting worse and worse. He does not even pretend to try on defense, his shot selection is worse than a "prime" Monta Ellis's, and he continues to care more aobut his own numbers than the team.

It is actually a miracle Real Madrid won with how poorly he played against Sevilla, but that is a credit to the work of his teammates, who are made to carry everything for him, just like his old teammates at PSG who await a second straight Champions League Final.

Mbappe proved Alvaro Arbeloa's quiet point that the club cannot win with player who are not trying to run or defend and that Mbappe only liked the olden days because things were catered to him scoring. Arbeloa played him, and what Mbappe did was expose himself as the weak link in the attack and the man dragging down the team. He was beyond awful against Sevilla, and only his loyal sheep will deny the putrid nature of his latest performance. Mbappe probably expected to go out there and score a bunch of goals, but, against his expectations, he fails to realize that he is just proving the point that he is not the savior of Madrid; he is being exposed as their big liability.
