Kylian Mbappe’s shocking stat exposes Real Madrid’s biggest issue

We knew it was bad, but not THIS bad.

Real Madrid has clearly been in a rough patch as of late. Real have won just four of their last ten matches and have struggled to find consistency during this stretch. The team has looked disjointed, confused and all over the place at times, which has impacted the individual form of players drastically compared to previous seasons.

One player, however, who has been the definition of consistent for Real Madrid this season is Kylian Mbappe. The Frenchman has been scoring goals for fun week in, week out and is in some of the best form of his career.

Mbappe is only one goal away from breaking Cristiano Ronaldo's record for goals scored by a Real Madrid player in a calendar year, showing just how consistent he has been during tough times.

However, his consistency can also be an achilles heel for Real Madrid as it makes the team too reliant on the Frenchman's heroics on any given matchday.

I think it's safe to say that it's obvious to many just how much Real Madrid is relying on Kylian Mbappe this season, but when you take a deeper look at the full scale of it, it's quite shocking.

Kylian Mbappe’s stat shines light on Real Madrid’s biggest flaw

With stats provided by TheMadridZone on X, we can see that Kylian Mbappe is Real Madrid's top goal scorer this season with 28 goals, with Vinicius Jr currently sitting in second with... 5 goals.

If we take the total, Real Madrid have scored 49 goals this season, with Mbappe scoring 28 of them, that's 57% of the entire team's goals coming from just one player. That is an outrageous number and something that needs to be quickly sorted out if Real Madrid hopes to turn things around.

The team can't rely on one player to get all the goals; that's just not feasible in the long run, and someone else needs to step up and get on the score sheet.

Even back in the days of Cristiano Ronaldo, he wasn't scoring all the goals for Real Madrid; he was scoring most of them, but there were still other players regularly scoring goals, and that's something this current squad must start doing, or else it's only going to get worse.

Just a few years ago, we were seeing 20+ goal seasons from the likes of Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo and Jude Bellingham, but now we barely see anyone else on the score sheet other than Kylian Mbappe. While yes, the Frenchman is arguably the best player in the world, he can't do it all on his own and needs his teammates to step up.

Who exactly is going to step up remains to be seen. We've seen Rodrygo bag two goals in Real's last three games, so maybe he could be the one to take the initiative and take some of the scoring load off Mbappe. Los Blancos face off against Sevilla in their last match before the holiday break, so will we see someone other than Kylian Mbappe on the score sheet? Only time will tell.
