Jose Mourinho demanded that Real Madrid sign Marc Cucurella as quickly as possible ahead of any interest from La Liga rivals Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, as he viewed the Spanish national team left back as by far the best fit for his tactical game plan, wanting desperately to land a hard working defensive player to support Vinicius Junior out wide.
And so Real Madrid promptly spent 60 million euros to sign Chelsea's Cucurella, who quickly jumped at the opportunity to play for the biggest club in the world despite coming from Barcelona's academy, being a star for Getafe, and nearly signing for Atleti - all three rivals of Real Madrid.
In interviews, Cucurella is already endearing himself to Madridistas, showing a genuine love for the club and that willingness to get to business and do the dirty work to help Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr., proving why Mourinho wanted him so badly.
Marc Cucurella just got extra motivation
But Dani Olmo, Lamine Yamal, and the other Barcelona stars in the Spanish national team are publicly not too happy with Cucurella, and while they are playing under the guise of jokes, the comments are so pointed that they do not feel very funny.
Spain's best player, Yamal, was the latest to jump into a rather immature comment about Cucurella, and though it was banter, Jose Mourinho will undoubtedlly use these things as bulletin board material for Marc Cucurella and the other Real Madrid stars to try and stir up the Clasico rivalry to what it was back when he went to war with Pep Guardiola in the early 2010s.
Lamine Yamal absolutely roasted Cucurella to the media, via Madrid Xtra, “Facing Marc Cucurella in El Clásico? I told him that he will start the first match but by the 2nd, he will be a substitute because I will eat him alive.”
Sure, it's El Clasico and Yamal was half joking, but fully serious or not, those are crazy words to say during the World Cup about one of your teammates. Those are fighting words, and Cucurella is going to remember them when the World Cup ends and La Liga begins.
At the first Clasico, you had better believe Mourinho is going to tell Cucurella and the Real Madrid defense to give Yamal a little bit of a special treatment like what Pepe and Sergio Ramos used to do for Lionel Messi. Those are brutal, ugly words, and all Cucurella can do is prove Yamal wrong and beat him on the pitch.
