Real Madrid legend Cristiano Ronaldo's last World Cup moment was a Round of 16 defeat to Spain in a hard fought 1-0 match where the turning point was an injury to the best left back on the planet, Nuno Mendes. While Lamine Yamal was not the star of the show this tim for the Spanish national team against Portugal, he became a star to even the Madridistas after the match for publicly displaying his respect to Ronaldo, who had singled him out for praise before the game, and doing so in a way that even Cristiano's Portuguese teammates disappointingly did not.
Yamal is a Barcelona superstar, and as much as Madridistas are loathe to give credit to someone playing for the Blaugrana, anyone can see that he is a special player and may be the most uniquely gifted footballer on the planet when he is on the ball.
Real Madrid fans, though, may start to feel better and better about showing some respect to the young Yamal on the other side of the Clasico rivalry despite some of his antics, including his comments about new Madridista Cucurella, because of the utmost reverance he is showing to Madrid's greatest ever player.
Cristiano Ronaldo is aura
Even days after the Round of 16 battle, Lamine Yamal is still talking about Cristiano Ronaldo, and he just recently gave his most effusive praise to the Portuguese GOAT. Yamal said of Ronaldo, via the Madrid Zone, “What is aura? In football, Cristiano Ronaldo. Aura is a person who gives off, something like when they arrive, it's like, you know? When you see someone in a movie and you go 'WOW.' For example, Brad Pitt or like that. In football, Cristiano would be a good example of aura.”
You would have thought that Yamal would have given Lionel Messi or another Barcelona or even Spanish icon the honor of being the definition of aura, but, then again, Yamal is a lot of things but not a liar. And for most in the football world, Cristiano is that Brad Pitt level of superstar who turns heads and is the ultimate larger than life figure.
Real Madrid fans know very well of Cristiano's aura. He is the guy who took Real Madrid out of the doldrums, brought them back to the Champions League semifinals every year, and then won four Champions League titles and mor Ballons d'Or than any other Madridista before him, three peating the biggest prize in club football while breaking countless records along the way.
