Kylian Mbappe may have thought that he was in the clear from the media firestorm after Fede Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni got into a fight in the locker room, but the Real Madrid forward is back on everyone's radar in a negative light after he pulled out of El Clasico at the last second.
Real Madrid fans are beginning to speculate that Mbappe is a player who wants to pick and choose when he wants to play, and they have noted a disturbing trend of him not playing in many important games since coming to Madrid, such as El Clasico, El Derbi, and Champions League knockout clashes. Given how quickly he seemed to recover from an apparently season ending hamstring injury to how quickly he pulled out of the trip to Barcelona after getting back on the pitch from that same injury, Real Madrid fans are not sure if they can trust Mbappe.
Now, according to a report from Mario Cortegana of The Athletic, a source stated that there is belief that Kylian Mbappe wants to avoid playing at the Santiago Bernabeu again because of being booed by the fans multiple times this season.
Kylian Mbappe is no Cristiano
It is important to offer the caveat that this is another anonymous source of information and that there is a hunt for moles in the locker room, but if people are going to speculate about Fede Valverde's future and wonder if the information is coming from Mbappe's clan, then it is fair to discuss these kinds of reports as well.
And with no real explanation for Mbappe bouncing in and out of the lineup, Madridistas have to wonder if Mbappe is lacking in the mentality he purports to have from idol Cristiano Ronaldo. Because in truth, Mbappe has been booed the least of the superstar players despite dragging the team down to PSG levels since joining in 2024. He has been treated the easiest with Vinicius Junior largely absorbing most of the criticism despite winning two Champions Leagues while kissing the Real Madrid badge with pride.
Mbappe has shown no such respect for Real Madrid, and he did not face the music against Barcelona and take his beating by the hands of the rightful champions of Spain like a man. Instead, he puckered out, just as he did before.
That was a road game at the Camp Nou, but now if Mbappe is reticent to play at the Santiago Bernabeu because of criticism, that shows a weakness that even the PSG fans were warning Madridistas about two years ago. And it is a weakness Cristiano and Karim Benzema, always responsive to the jeers, never had as true legends of this club.
