Former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane is one of the great icons of the club a both a player and a coach, and yet no matter how much he has achieved as a manager, there have always been criticism and skepticism of the French legend.
Even when Zizou won three straight Champions League titles at Real Madrid, accomplishing something never done before, people were still saying wild things about the coach like about how he is not even a real coach and was a cheerleader whose players set all the tactics on the pitch again.
Real Madrid fans are now having to hear a lot of those same lines regurgitated in the media now that Zidane has finally taken over for Didier Deschamps as the French national manager, which is the dream job he always wanted after resigning from Real Madrid following the 2020/21 La Liga season.
Zinedine Zidane knows how to win
But there are plenty of people who actually know what it is like to coach at the top level and think what people say about Zinedine Zidane as a manager, and one of them is former French national team manager Laurent Blanc. While Blanc won Ligue 1 with Bordeaux and then three times with PSG, in addition to the Saudi Pro League once, he could not quite hack it with the French national team.
And in an interview with French newspaper Nice Matin, Blanc said he can't understand why people don't believe in Zidane coaching Les Bleus. Blanc said, via Actu Foot, He'll gladly step into the role. We've got an exceptional generation, and he'll want to make it shine. I've heard here and there: "It's going to be tough, he'll see, Les Bleus are something special..." but, frankly, what is Zidane going to see? What do you want him to be afraid of? He's won three Champions Leagues as a coach, he was a world champion and you think this mission is going to rattle him? He knows exactly what awaits him. He'll be the greatest when it comes to wins, and they'll tear into him after the losses. He's seen it all before. I know him a bit, and he's going into this above all with immense pleasure. And I hope for ours too."
Laurent Blanc was not a successful French manager, but he has been successful at other high profile jobs. And he sees what makes Zidane so successful and what he can bring to France. He faced the utmost pressure with Real Madrid and won, and Blanc is exactly right: nothing is going to face him no matter what.
