Liverpool's revenge plan actually benefits Real Madrid

Liverpool are not happy with Real Madrid. Los Blancos signed their biggest homegrown talent for pennies, and are now in race to sign another big name, someone Liverpool are trying not to lose the way they did with Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Merseyside club’s fans are also agitated. They call Trent a traitor, a snake, on social media. But the outrage is uncalled for. A player choosing to move from one prestigious institution to another while honouring his contract is not wrong in any manner.

Aurelien Tchouameni, too, was fought over between the two clubs, and Madrid ended up being the winners of that battle as well. The Merengues have cost Liverpool two Champions League finals, and all of this combined does explain some of that hostility.

And we’re being told that Liverpool have now formulated a revenge plot to give Real Madrid a taste of their own medicine, albeit, the plan is more beneficial to Madrid than it is satisfying for Liverpool.

Liverpool’s revenge plot is laughably beneficial to Real Madrid

According to Diario AS, Liverpool now seek revenge against what Real Madrid have been doing in the transfer market with their players, by checkmating the Spanish side in their own game.

The story says that Liverpool have decided to make Rodrygo a transfer target and want to take him away from Real Madrid to avenge how they were treated in the Trent Alexander-Arnold deal.

But I want to introspect, are Real Madrid really in the wrong here? I mean, they want to offload Rodrygo anyway. There’s no position for him in the team, and having him leave is exactly what Madrid may want.

They recently put a price tag on the Brazilian, a humongous one, and Liverpool will have to hover around it, since the contract does not expire until the summer of 2028. Severing it will take a significant transfer fee.

In fact, it is exactly this money that Real Madrid need to secure the signings of a midfielder and a centre-back, Ibrahima Konate from Liverpool, in this case.

So let me get this straight: Liverpool are planning to avenge Trent’s “heist” by paying Real Madrid a large transfer fee for a player they want out anyway, money which Madrid may then use to sign another Liverpool player.

Some brilliant tactics, that. I hope the transfer goes through tomorrow, for all I care. I say, bring it on.
