Real Madrid have been linked with several Liverpool stars in recent years and could swoop for a member of Arne Slot's squad this summer. At least one new midfielder is expected to arrive at the Estadio Bernabeu.
The latest name to be talked up for a move to Madrid is Dominik Szoboszlai. There are claims in Hungary that the La Liga giants and Manchester City are keeping tabs on the midfielder amid ongoing contract negotiations between him and his club.
Szoboszlai isn't the only Liverpool man who Los Blancos have on their radar as they have also been eyeing Alexis MacAllister. Reported interest in the Argentine midfielder extends back to mid-2025 and he remains on the club's shortlist.
Alexis MacAllister's father on Real Madrid speculation
MacAllister hasn't been at his best this season after starring for the Merseyside giants in their Premier League title campaign. He has made 34 appearances across competitions, scoring three goals and providing four assists.
The 27-year-old has looked a little off the pace and this has coincided with the Reds' struggle to keep the pace with Arsenal and City in the title race. But he remains one of Europe's most highly-admired box-to-box midfielders with an incredible engine room and an eye for goal.
MacAllister's father and agent, Carlos, has shed light on his son's situation amid links to Madrid. He told winwin (via Transfer News Live):
“What I can say at the moment is that Alexis is focused on Liverpool and the current season. Alexis is very happy and very comfortable with Liverpool.”
While Carlos suggests the 2022 World Cup winner is happy at Anfield he doesn't rule out a potential move this summer. The Argentina international will have two years left on his contract.
MacAllister is one of several options Madrid have in mind this summer and scouts seems to be focusing on the Premier League. Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez is also liked by the club although the finances involved make a potential deal unlikely.
Madrid need to be cautious over possible MacAllister move
MacAllister has proven to be one of Liverpool's best pieces of business in years but his displays this season have been a concern. Many regarded him as one of the best midfielders in Europe last year but several worrying outings have seen his stock drop.
If the Reds are open to a sale that could indicate that they feel the Argentine is no longer able to perform at his best. He dealt with a injury issues a little while ago and it seems they are plaguing him this term.
MacAllister should only be signed for a reasonable fee and shouldn't be a priority for Madrid. If he remains at Anfield and enters the final year of his contract it could be a case of revisiting a potential deal.
