When Real Madrid president Florentino Perez sets his mind to something, he tends to get that task done. He was obsessed with Kylian Mbappe for years, and whlie the road to signing the French superstar was difficult and took a long time, he did finally land the 2018. World Cup winner in 2024 on a free transfer from PSG.
Now, Perez's latest obsession is Mbappe's French national teammate Michael Olise, whom Mbappe and Real Madrid teammate Aurelien Tchouameni have evidently been able to successfully recruit from Bayern Munich to the Royal White side, pending Olise officially divulging his wishes to Bayern in a planned closed doors meeting after the 2026 World Cup.
Florentino and Madrid view Olise as the perfect left footed right winger to complete the world's best attacking trio with Mbappe in the middle and Vinicius Junior on the left, though there are sadly rumblings that Vini may have to be sacrificed if Flo really wants Olise this summer.
Florentino Perez just got extra motivation
In any case, Bayern Munich continue to make it clear that they have no intention of selling Michael Olise to Real Madrid this year at any price, and in a recent interview, German and Bayern legend Lothar Matthaus said some strong words that will reveberate to the Spanish capital.
Matthaus said of an Olise deal, via Madrid Xtra, “I understand wanting to play for Real Madrid. Every player wants to play for Real Madrid at some point. But Bayern will not entertain talks, they will laugh the headlines off. My possibility for Olise to join Real Madrid this summer is practically zero.”
While Lothar Matthaus did show respect to Real Madrid by admitting that every top player wants to go to the Santiago Bernabeu, his word choice of stating that Bayern will laugh Madrid off and that there is almost "zero" chance of a deal will not be met as kindly at the Valdebebas.
Because if there is one thing that will set Florentino Perez off and make him even more obsessed about getting something bold done, then it is telling him that his ideas are impossible. Giving Perez a zero percent chance of getting the Olise deal done is a sure way to egg Perez on and get him to steal the superstar away from Bayern Munich.
This Olise saga is far from over, and, if anything, Matthaus's strong statement just fanned the flames in a way Bayern may not like.
