Casemiro was a key part of Real Madrid for nearly 10 years. In that time, he won the Champions League five times and La Liga three times. Being a defensive midfielder, his work would often go under the radar. Despite more attacking players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, and Toni Kroos getting all the plaudits, the fans at the Bernabeu still rated Casemiro highly.

Since Casemiro joined Manchester United, and the fact that he is now in his thirties. The midfielder's stock has dropped dramatically. However, United fans are starting to take note of Casemiro's stats. An article on the Premier League's official website by former Arsenal player, Adrian Clarke, has revealed Casemiro's contribution.

The piece said, "Without Casemiro on the pitch, Man Utd have conceded a goal once every 31.54 minutes, but that stretches enormously to one goal leaked every 110.6 minutes when he is on the field of play."

Since the article was published, United conceded two goals against Tottenham Hotspur after Casemiro was taken off. They then lost 1-0 to Everton, but did concede when the Brazilian was still on the field. He was then substituted in the second half as the Red Devils tried in vain to break down the 10-man Toffees.

Casemiro could be one of the most underrated Premier League players

Casemiro's defensive work often goes unnoticed, but he is also contributing in an attacking sense. He has scored three goals and made one assist in 11 Premier League games this season. This included the winning goal against the dark horses for the title, Chelsea.

United are still 10th in the Premier League and without any form of European soccer this season. They are still a way off they were during the Sir Alex Ferguson days at the club, where they won the league 13 times, and the Champions League twice.

Casemiro is now 33, and his contract expires at the end of the season. However, there is the option to extend the deal by a further year. He has been linked with moving to the Saudi Pro League. There have been rumors about a reunion with Ronaldo at Al-Nassr, whilst clubs across the world are reportedly also interested. However, if he continues to do the important but unsung work at United, it might benefit all parties if he stays.

The Brazilian will not go down as a United legend, given the club's current predicament, as he is at the back end of his career. However, he could play a crucial role in getting the ball rolling for a potential Red Devils resurgence.
