Real Madrid is one of those clubs that always looks to sign the best young talent in the world, with the end goal being to develop them into top stars at the Bernabeu, to somewhat mixed results. It didn't quite work out for players like Martin Ødegaard, however they club found massive success with players like Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo in recent years. Real always loves to have a plethora of young talent in their academy that they can call on at any moment. Right now, they have their eyes on one of the most talked-about youngsters in Europe.
As being reported by Mail Sport via MadridXtra on X, Real Madrid are currently leading the race and growing confident in signing 15-year-old Manchester United wonderkid JJ Gabriel. The teenager informed United earlier this week of his desire to leave, with Real Madrid ready to pounce on the situation; however, would a move really be worth all the headaches that may come with it?
Real Madrid lead the race for the in-demand United youngster, but is it worth the headache?
The youngster has yet to make his senior team debut with United, however, he has grabbed five goals and two assists across three games in the Premier League 2 and UEFA Youth League, so there is no denying his talent and potential.
But, when looking at his request to leave United, some headaches may arise. Gabriel's desire to leave United has mostly been driven by his father due to his son's lack of opportunities in the first team when other youngsters have been called up, and as we've seen before in football, when a player's entourage gets involved in things like this, things can get ugly real fast.
Real Madrid already has so many egos in the dressing room and their agents to deal with, so adding another, even with him signing with Castilla first, would be a major disruptor and distraction to the dressing room. Real Madrid already has to manage massive egos like Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, and, how could we forget about Vinicius Jr - so adding a youngster with a similar ego and entourage could spell disaster for Real Madrid in the long run.
Should Real Madrid land JJ Gabriel, given he's still only 15-years-old, he would be playing with Castilla in the youth system for a number of years, and given his father wants him to leave United due to a lack of first-team opportunities, would they be happy with him joining Castilla first? Probably not.
While there's no denying Gabriel has loads of talent and potential, the whole situation is something Real Madrid should avoid for the betterment of the club. There's no guarantee that, in a few years, he would even make it into the first team and could end up like many of the youngsters we saw get sold this summer, so in the long run, it wouldn't be worth all the headaches that will follow the player off the pitch, when Real Madrid already has so much to deal with in that area.
