Real Madrid defender Marc Cucurella was really surprised when he found out about the stat that said his team runs less than every other team in La Liga during the first few days of the international break.
Cucurella was doing an interview for Spain, and he was asked about the stat, to which he showed his obvious surprise. He believed that Real Madrid ran a lot, which is ridiculous.
He said: "We're the team that runs the least in La Liga? That surprises me, because we actually run a lot. Maybe those stats are talked about now because we lost the derby and we lost to Betis.
“If we had won every game, nobody would be talking about that. But in the end, the stats are there, so we have to improve them, or we have to win every game so these stats aren't as talked about.
“Maybe we have to give a bit more effort and improve things a bit."

This is just really funny. Every fan that watches Real Madrid knows that this team has an obvious problem of not being tireless runners on the pitch. They know their team doesn't run enough in the small games as well as the big games. The difference in the amount of distance covered by the two teams that play is usually significant.
Real Madrid have two players, Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappé, who run considerably less than anyone else on the team. The team in general also does not run too much, and when you watch Real Madrid playing one of their bad games, you can see that. It does not make sense that Cucurella can't see that, but so many other fans that watch Real Madrid and complain about them on Twitter can.
Even if they were winning every single game, people would still care because the difference in the amount of distance that Real Madrid covers and the amount that every other team in the league does is so big. It can still bite Real Madrid when they least expect it, because it is not something that you just let go of simply because you're winning games.
It doesn't have to be a bad result for fans to think about these things. Even when Real Madrid were running last season and the season before that, fans still talked about how the team did not run nearly as much as it should. It is primarily due to Vinicius and Mbappé's lack of defensive contributions, but it is not just going to be mentioned when they're winning.
You can see clips circulating online from Real Madrid’s wins that show one of the two superstars of this team not running in a certain sequence. That goes to show that fans still care about the effort that these players put in, and Cucurella’s statement about this entire situation just goes to show the sheer ignorance that some of these Real Madrid players are showing.
It does not matter if you win, draw, or lose. If you don't give 100% on the pitch, sooner or later it will come back to haunt you, and unfortunately for Real Madrid players, it has already happened to them.
