New Real Madrid left back Marc Cucurella had the World Cup tournament of his life, and if he is serious about retiring after the Spanish national team did indeed seal the deal with a dominant 1-0 peformance over a shady Argentina side, then he will have exited international football on top.
Because not only has the world's worst drunken singer secured a World Cup to go with his 2024 European Championship for La Roja, but he also shut down the world's pretend GOAT, Lionel Messi, completely marking the Argentinia captain out of the game with yet another monster class of a defensive performance for his country.
All tournament long, Cucurella has shut the left flank down and left no blemishes or openings for the opponent to get anything going on that side, and even Messi was left stymied and totally embarrassed. Messi was so pathetic against Cucurella that he had to try to invent a red card offense against him during the Enzo Fernandez red card debacle, so desperate he was to avoid the new Real Madrid star.
Marc Cucurella ain't no joke
Earlier in the tournament, the Barcelona contingent on Spain were giving Marc Cucurella some real stick for his transfer to Real Madrid after once coming from Barca's prestigious academy. Dani Olmo and Lamine Yamal had some unkind words for Cucurella, with the star right winger even saying that he would cook Cucurella so bad in El Clasico that Real Madrid would have to sub him off at half time.
Since those comments from Yamal ,Cucurella has lapped the young Spanish standout attacker as the important player on the team alongside possible Real Madrid transfer targets Pedro Porro at right back and Rodri in the defensive midfield.
And then Cucurella totaly dominated Yamal's idol Lionel Messi in the World Cup Final. Yamal owes a lot of this World Cup triumph to the dirty work Cucurella did in defense on the opposite side of the pitch, but he and his mouth also need to worry about Cucurella on the pitch when the 2026/27 La Liga season starts.
Because Cucurella's dominant defensive performance are a message and a clear warning that Lamine Yamal must heed. If Cucurella can destroy a Messi who had eight goals this tournament, then Yamal will need to be on his best game in El Clasico when Barcelona battle Real Madrid, because maybe Yamal will be the one who needs to get hooked for a stinker at the break against The Hair.
