There has been a lot of back and forth regarding Manchester City star defensive midfielder Rodri, who made it clear months ago while on international duty for Spain that he is dreaming of a move to Real Madrid this summer. And when Pep Guardiola officially stepped down as Man City's manager, the rumblings of Rodri leaving became pretty much a gurantee.
Though Florentino Perez's competition Enrique Riquelme seemed to make Rodri, alongside his Manchester City striker teammate Erling Haaland, a central component of his presidential platform, Perez himself has shown pretty much less than zero interest since the start of the window on Rodri.
But as many reporters around Real Madrid have pointd out, he was equally uninterested in Bernardo Silva and had rejected the Manchester City center midfielder and right winger for years, even back when he was a world class player, but signed him anyway this summer because Jose Mourinho pushed for it.

Now, according to a report from Radio MARCA, via the Madrid Zone, Jose Mourinho is joining the several influential voices in the Real Madrid front office to try and convince Florentino Perez into changing his mind about Rodri after an insane World Cup performance.
Per MARCA, Mourinho has gone so far as to tell Florentino that he should sign Rodri and that the Portuguese manager wants the World Cup Champion and Golden Ball winner at the Santiago Bernabeu no matter what.
Reportedly, Flo's biggest concerns about Rodri are his age and injury history. Though he looked incredible at the World Cup after a grueling season and is fully recovered, as Pep Guardiola had already predicted, from the brutal knee injury, he is 30 years old and has no resale value with one year left on his contract. So if Rodri is going to cost a fair bit from Manchester City this summer, it makes no sense to take on that financial risk and pay intead of waiting as a free agent.
But as the Bernardo Silva and Marc Cucurella deals have shown, Jose Mourinho has a lot of power after Florentino reunited with him following back to back seasons without a Real Madrid trophy. So what he wants, he gets, even when it is a genuinely finished article like Silva, who stunk up the joint for Portugal this World Cup. But Rodri was the opposite, and if Mourinho and the others want him, they do stand a chance.
