Although Thomas Tuchel and others acted as though the FIFA World Cup third place game is nothing more than a useless consolation match, the actual players for the French and England national teams left it all on the line in an entertaining 6-4 firecracker in the favor of the Three Lions, taking a page out of Real Madrid legend Davor Suker's book by taking this match seriously.
While Real Madrid transfer target Michael Olise ended up on the losing side of the occasion, the Bayern Munich star had another quietly excellent all around performance, proving that he does so much more than just score goals or make the headline grabbing plays to help his team.
Once again, Olise did not score, but he was arguably the best player on his team. The 24 year old right winger had two assists and led France with four key passes, producing another elite playmaking performance to do whatever he could to set the ball up for Kylian Mbappe, who ended up with another brace to pull into first in the Golden Boot race with exactly 10 goals at the tournament.

Olise was also great defensively, putting together a similar two way performance on the right wing for France vs. England as he did in the quarterfinals when Les Bleus dominated Morocco to the tune of a 2-0 victory. He had five tackles despite being a forward in this game against England, leading all players on the French national team in possessions won, even besting star center back Dayot Upamecano.
Jose Mourinho loves players who fight hard for the team and do more than score goals, and he really appreciates forwards who do this. Real Madrid used to boast the best front line in European football at working hard defensively with the trio of VInicius Junior, Rodrygo Goes, and either Karim Benzema or Jude Bellingham when they won their last two Champions League titles, but Kylian Mbappe's addition totally destabilized all that with even Rodrygo and Vinicius falling down to the level of Mbappe's lack of effort (though obviously not nearly as bad).
As Florentino Perez and Real Madrid dream of adding the left footed Michael Olise to fill out their attack, his latest performance for France with copious chances created and tackles won is a clear message to Mourinho that he is going to bring effort, intensity, and the all around qualities to the Madrid attack that the Portuguese manager craves if he were to be signed.
