Florentino Perez promised a Galactic signing to the Real Madrid fans, and while he had told everyone that it would not be Michael Olise when asked, it has become clear in the weeks since then that the Frenchman is the new obsession of the club president, who fell in love with the way Olise dominated Los Blancos in the Champions League quarterfinals last season.

But Bayern Munich continue to drive an impossible bargain for Olise. The only way Real Madrid could possibly sign Olise is if they break or match the record 222 million euros Neymar went to PSG for in 2017, and even then, Bayern are still likely to say no.

According to a report from Diario AS, via the Madrid Zone, Real Madrid have once again been informed that signing Olise will be impossible, so they are now turning their focus fully towards signing Chelsea defensive midfielder Enzo Fernandez. Apparently, per Diario AS, not only does manager Jose Mourinho want to sign Enzo, but the Premier League star is actually his No. 1 transfer priority.

Real Madrid have to sign an elite midfielder

That goes again what many had thought just a couple of weeks ago that Mateus Fernandes, who shares the same agent as Mourinho, was his top choice due to his age and upside. But Fernandez is the best midfielder available on the market and a proven player who is having an insane World Cup as part of a hard working midfield trio that sets up goals upon goals for Lionel Messi.

Enzo is a guy with the technical quality and intelligence to control a midfield, the raw talent to score a lot of goals from midfield, and an elite defensive work and work rate to make all those around him better. Chelsea paid a ton of money to sign him from Benfica, but through bad coaching and organizational incompetence, they have not able to get the man hum the way he does at the World Cup for Argentina.

It is easy to see why Mourinho would be smitten with him, and although Enzo will not be all that much cheaper at a reported asking price of around 150 million euros from Chelsea, that is the kind of money Real Madrid may need to spend on a midfielder in order to truly upgrade what they have in the middle of the park. Real have gaping holes in midfield, and the upgrade Enzo would be over Aureilen Tchouameni at the No. 6 is enough reason for Jose to make him his No. 1 transfer target.
