If one thing has been the downfall of Real Madrid in the last five or six years it's injuries. Real Madrid can't catch a break when it comes to their star players getting sidelined with injuries, some of them very serious injuries as has been the case with Eder Militao. The defender has been sidelined for months with many waiting for some kind of update in his recovery and we finally have one albeit a small update but still an important one.

As pointed out by MadridXtra on X, defender Eder Militao was training on the grass individually this week doing some walking and light jogging, taking a huge step forward in his recovery from surgery. The Brazilian went down with a severe torn left hamstring against Deportivo Alaves back on April 21st forcing him to undergo surgery and ultimately miss the World Cup with what is expected to be a five month recovery. While he is still far off being back to full fitness this is a big step forward given the severity of his injury,

Slowly but surely Eder Militao will be back for Real Madrid

Militao has had quite a nightmare past three seasons when it comes to injuries, suffering a torn ACL in back-to-back seasons in 23/24 and 24/25 followed by hamstring injuries during the 25/26 season, including this one that has kept him sidelined since April. And this is extremely hard for the Brazilian who has far and away been Real Madrid's best defender when fully fit and arguably the best defender in the world when fully fit, but full fitness has sadly been hard to come by for the 28-year-old.

Again while this may still be somewhat of a small update it is one that Real Madrid needed to hear with their current center-back situation. Dean Huijsen as been dealing with a slight knock this pre-season and the same can be said for Antonio Rudiger and both players struggled with injuries last season which means they could carry over from the pre-season to the regular season. Raul Asencio is also out injured for around six weeks and is actively being shopped by the club leaving newly arriving Ibrahima Konate as the only fit central defender Jose Mourinho has and he hasn't even arrived for pre-season yet.

This small update could serve as a kind of moral boost for the team as Militao is a cornerstone piece in the backline so his recovery improving will no doubt lift the spirits of his teammates as the new season quickly approaches.

Once back to full fitness Militao is expected to regain his starting role partnering either Ibrahima Konate of Dean Huijsen as well as slotting back into the backline with new teammates Marc Cucurella and Denzel Dumfries, in what on paper is one of the strongest backlines in all of Europe.
