Nacho Fernandez was one of them. Real Madrid have missed the characters like Nacho who were backups but really dominant defenders with the strength of belief to become world beaters on the big stage when Real Madrid needed the most.
Real Madrid need to win again
There is no doubt that Nacho, a serial Champions League winner, knows what it takes to win at the highest level year after year and be one of the best in European football, and he has worked with Jose Mourinho before so he also knows the Portuguese legend's methods up close and personal.
Nacho is a big believer in Mourinho and what he can bring to Real Madrid in 2026. In an interview with Diario AS, via Madrid Xtra, Nacho said the exact words of optimism that the Madridista faithful needed to hear about Mou.
The former Spanish international said, “Mourinho is what Real Madrid needs. He will have the players 100% committed.”
That is what Real Madrid need above all else. They need every man in that squad to be committed to each other and committed to winning. Real have had too many players looking out for only themselves and their stats, but Mou is one of those guys who does not tolerate that at all, no matter how good you are - or worse yet, no matter how good you think you are.
Real Madrid need more players like Nacho Fernandez who would do anything for the cause, and if they are not already like that, it sounds as though. Nacho is optimistic that Mourinho can pound that into them, ensuring that Mou is able to fulfill the reason why Florentino Perez brought him back in the first place: to win titles.
