Como star attacking midfielder Nico Paz was one of the biggest stories in world football this season, and it still feels like the Ballon d'Or sleeper hasn't gotten his due credit. The best player in Serie A right now, Paz was the architect of Cesc Fabregas's fairytale season in the Italian top flight, playing like a Luka Modric regen in pulling Como up to fourth place and the Champions League. And best of all for Real Madrid, he is all theirs if they want him.

It isn't that simple, though. Because of his importance to Como, the club still very much want to keep him on loan for another season after two great years around the lake, with Paz only getting better and better as their orchestrator.

And Como have a great shot at convincing him with Champions League football and a more functional team right now with less drama, as well as the ability to be a more important player in their project; it is built around his skills.

Nico Paz is making his Como decision

According to a report from Italian transfer insider Gianluca Di Marzio, via the Madrid Zone, Nico Paz himself actually wants to stay with Como for one more season instead of going to Real Madrid. However, the final decision will rest with Jose Mourinho, who is set to come in soon as the official new Merengue manager.

Mourinho could very well convince Paz, who would be one of the signings of the summer with a buy back clause of less than 10 million euros. And although Real Madrid have some big names in the middle of the park like Jude Bellingham, Fede Valverde, and Arda Guler, they also have a weakness for a highly technical and creative all around center midfielder like Paz, especially after Toni Kroos and Luka Modric both left.

Paz was even better than Modric in the same league, scoring, assisting, defending, progressing the ball, and doing everything as a young leader for Como. The thing is, though, Real Madrid generally don't like to make decision on players against their will, and if a player still does not feel they are ready for Madrid yet or have unfinished business at their current club, they let those players wait until they are 100 percent ready.

Real Madrid have pulled the trigger on top talents too early in the past, and they would rather sign Paz for one million euro more after an extra season of seasoning in the Champions League witih Como than throw him into the fire under Jose Mourinho before he feels comfortable. The decision, if Paz wants Como, should be easy. Let him stay.
