It is that time of the year again when the World Cup squads are annnounced and Real Madrid fans find out which players could make their club proud this summer and which ones won't even get a chance to represent their country.

Already, Madridistas were quite happy to see who was snubbed from the Spanish national team. Young guns Dean Huijsen, Gonzalo Garcia, and Fran Garcia all have chances to make the 2026 World Cup after being named to Luis de la Fuente's preliminary squad, while bigger names Dani Carvajal and Alvaro Carreras were snubbed after horrible 2025/26 seasons - and horrible attitudes.

But some players who have been disappointments this season are getting rewarded. First, Franco Mastantuono has made it to the Argentina preliminary squad to the World Cup, and now fellow midfielder Eduardo Camavinga is about to do the same, as RMC Sport reports, via Madrid Xtra, that the Frenchman is expected to be called up to the squad.

Eduardo Camavinga is having a poor season

Camavinga is a nice guy and even president Florentino Perez likes him, but that affinity from the Presi and the theoretical talent he brings to the able may be the only reason why Cama has not been placed on the transfer list yet.

The former Rennes star came to Real Madrid with so much bounce and quality, dominating Ligue 1 and then playing a crucial role down the stretch of that first Champions League triumph. But even Camavinga's biggest proponents have to admit that he has regressed this season, producing some of the worst football of his career in the last few months has the title has slipped from Real Madrid. Inexcusable mental errors like ones against Girona and Mallorca within a week have now become the hallmark of his play.

So with so many underrated French midfielders shining around European football, such as Roma's Manu Kone, Eduardo Camavinga finding his place on the stacked French national team's World Cup squad would be an undeserving honor.

You can see why French national team legend and current manager Didier Deschamps would call him up. Camavinga, in theory, is a great footballer with a lot of energy in that box to box role, and he may be able to play a more suitable role with France than with Real Madrid. But it still isn't great to see a player rewarded after a bad season, and while Camavinga is not one of the biggest egos in the locker room, these unmerited honors are often gateways to worrisome behavior.
