More heartbreak for Liverpool, anyone?

After last season's disappointment, Real Madrid was on a mission to completely reshape its defense under new manager Xabi Alonso. The team was leaking in goals for fun last season, and it is a priority that that doesn't happen again this year.

The club signed three defenders this summer: Dean Huijsen, Alvaro Carreras, and Trent Alexander-Arnold. All three have already proven to be very good signings after just three games this season.

However, even after these signings, the club is still keeping their eyes on the market for their next defender of the future. Real have been strongly linked with a move for Liverpool center-back Ibrahima Konate over the recent months, and he seems poised to be making the switch to Los Blancos next summer.

However, Real seems to have added another central defender to their wishlist for next summer, and they hope to pull off the heist of the century and steal him as a free transfer from the Premier League's best side.

As being reported by ESPN, Real Madrid are one of a number of clubs eyeing a move for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

As we all know, Liverpool were on the brink of signing Guehi on deadline day but the deal collapsed for a number of reasons. As a result, the Englishman will stay at Crystal Palace this season before leaving as a free agent next summer, and this time there will be more clubs than just Liverpool chasing him.

Real Madrid have made themselves known as somewhat masters of the free transfer in recent years after signing the likes of Antonio Rudiger, Kylian Mbappe, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, all as free agents. And now, with everything that happened with the Guehi to Liverpool deal, and given he will be a free agent, he could potentially end up a a club other than the reigning Premier League champions.

Real will have to compete with the likes of Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and still Liverpool if they hope to steal him as a free transfer. Given the clubs recent record with free agents, the Englishman could very well end up at the Bernabeu next summer.
