3. Raphaël Varane (€11m)

From a player of the past to a player who is still active in the game, Raphaël Varane was admittedly one of the first names who sprung to mind when thinking about bargain Real Madrid transfers. Signed as a youngster at just 18 years old, Jose Mourinho took a punt to bring Varane to the club but what a punt it was.

In the summer transfer window of 2011, Real Madrid shocked the world with a €11m signing of Raphaël Varane. Not many could predict the incredible impact he would go on to have, though.

Forming a brilliant partnership with the Real Madrid legend Sergio Ramos, it soon became clear that Varane had a certain something about him. He would go onto form his own path to legendary status and he achieved it in the Spanish capital.

Varane won three Liga titles and four Champions League trophies, playing in the first team for an entire decade. He sadly joined Manchester United in 2021, soon joined by other bargain transfer Casemiro.
