3. Arjen Robben

From Real Madrid's perspective, Arjen Robben is a classic example of "right player at the wrong time." In hindsight, the Dutch legend is regarded as one of the best wingers in history but not many remember his days at Real Madrid and it is clear to see why - He was sold far too early.

Having spent just two years at the Santiago Bernabeu, Arjen Robben was sold to Bayern Munich in 2009. At the Bavarian side, Robben became a club legend and won eight league titles and the UEFA Champions League, making his one league title at Real Madrid pale insignificant.

Interestingly, reflecting on his career, Arjen Robben recalled not wanting to leave Los Blancos. As per SI, Arjen robben remembered being sold so Florentino Perez could recover the huge investments Real Madrid had made in the summer transfer window. It adds up, considering Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Karim Benzema and Xabi Alonso were signed in this transfer window.

Unfortunately, though, it was the wrong call for Real Madrid to force Arjen Robben out of the club. His signature bombing down the left-wing and ability to cut inside in his own trademark way made him one of the best wingers in the history of the beautiful game.
