Real Madrid has been home to some incredible players throughout history. Many of the best players in history pledged their loyalty to Real Madrid. However, there are examples of some promising players who fell through the cracks, and perhaps felt like they left the club too early.

Here are five players who struggled after leaving Real Madrid...

1. Mesut Ozil

Technically speaking, Mesut Ozil is one of the best midfielders of all-time. His technical ability was second to none when he played for Real Madrid and although this continued when he signed for Arsenal in 2013, his confidence slowly dropped.

Ozil was signed by Arsene Wenger in 2013 and was considered a statement signing. In truth, he did spend his first few seasons well, providing many assists and wowing the Emirates Stadium crowd with his touches.

Over time, though, Ozil's legacy became tarnished and things got quite sour in North London. Ozil missed the perfect time to leave the club, after winning the FA Cup for the third time in 2017. Ozil committed his future to the club in 2018, as he entered the final months of his contract.

At the time, his contract extension felt like huge news, but after signing the contract, Ozil was accused of lowering his efforts in an Arsenal shirt. His body language dropped and he was a fraction of the player he was at Real Madrid.
