Arsenal are keen admirers of the Real Madrid squad. It should come as no surprise that their manager, Mikel Arteta, is still eyeing his home country which naturally leads him to the biggest and best club in the world. Eyeing a Real Madrid transfer, Arsenal have seemingly made their first move.

Arsenal approach Real Madrid for long-awaited transfer

According to a report from TBR Football, Arsenal have now made contact to sign Andriy Lunin from Real Madrid. While it is still in an early stage of a potential deal, Arsenal have inquired about potentially signing Lunin, assuming that he still wishes to leave Real Madrid.

The report also states that Real Madrid remain keen on signing Kepa Arrizabalaga permanently. Given that Chelsea are also in the race for Lunin, it could be wise for Real to offer Lunin in a swap deal for Kepa, a mutually beneficial move for all parties involved.

However, Arsenal have a war-chest available to them this summer. Particularly if they sell their backup goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale for a large fee, which is possible, they could have plenty of money to spend on a replacement, with Andriy Lunin their most premium option.

From Real Madrid's perspective, it is worthwhile holding out on this race. With many clubs understandably interested in Lunin, it could be a case of Real Madrid holding out for the best possible deal. In many ways, it is a transfer race which benefits nobody except Real Madrid, who could be the beneficiaries of the maximum Lunin value.

Andriy Lunin is clearly an excellent goalkeeper. However, he is not the first choice at Real Madrid. He deserves to play for a team who can guarantee him game time but given that Thibaut Courtois is one of the best keepers in the world, this is simply not a promise he can have in the Spanish capital.

Where do you think Andriy Lunin will play next season?
