Real Madrid have a history of signing some of the best Brazilian wonderkids in recent times and turning them into bonafide superstars at Santiago Bernabeu. We have seen that happen with Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo already. And it feels like only a matter of time before the name of Endrick, who will arrive in the Spanish capital next summer, is added to that list as well.
Considering the success Real Madrid have had signing Brazilian players in recent years, one would not expect them to stop anytime soon. And Marcos Leonardo is someone they have been linked with recently.
The 20-year-old striker is currently at Santos. He had a good individual season, scoring 13 goals in the Brazilian Serie A. He finished as the fifth highest scorer in the competition and nobody younger than him finished higher on that list.
That was not enough to prevent Santos from being relegated. Leonardo was already expected to leave the club and now it seems inevitable.
Arsenal consider making offer for Real Madrid target
Real Madrid are not the only club interested in the Brazilian striker though. Arsenal seem to be in the race for his signature as well.
As reported by GOAL, Arsenal are considering an offer to Santos for Leonardo. It is possible that the English club will formalize this interest in January of next year, when the transfer window will open.
Of course, someone like Leonardo would tick a lot of the boxes that Real Madrid look for when it comes to signing a player. But at the same time, would signing him make sense for the club at this point in time, when Endrick is set to arrive next summer. Los Blancos would be better placed if they brought in a proven number 9 to lead the line and be the undisputed starter.
