It is no secret that Real Madrid need to sign a striker in the near future in order to replace Karim Benzema in the long-term. Los Blancos do have Joselu but he is only on loan for the season from Espanyol and at 33, it is hard to see him lead the line for years to come. One of the club's former players is making quite the impression though and has emerged on Arsenal's radar as a result.

Real Madrid have let a number of players go in recent years, who have ended up succeeding elsewhere. It is time to add the name of Borja Mayoral to that list.

He came through the youth ranks at Real Madrid and spent many years in and around the first-team picture. Eventually, he joined Getafe on a permanent basis in the summer of 2022 and is thriving there. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 14 goals in 22 appearances this season.

That form might lead him back to one of Europe's top teams. As reported by The Sun, Arsenal have made a £22 million bid for Mayoral. Getafe have turned down their initial offer as they hold out for a transfer fee closer to £39 million for the striker.

Mayoral has been one of the best strikers in La Liga this season. So, it is no surprise that he is being linked with Arsenal.

It remains to be seen if Arsenal do end up coming back with a second bid for Mayoral. Mikel Arteta's side have struggled for a focal point up top this season.

Overall, they have taken a step back since last season and need to sign a striker. They have been linked with both Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen. But could the former Real Madrid player be the answer to their problems?
