Real Madrid have been linked with a number of centre-backs following David Alaba's season-ending ACL injury, which is also expected to keep him out of EURO 2024. We can only wish the Austrian the best in his recovery. The club need to bring in someone to fill his void in the squad, at least on a short-term basis.

Quite a few centre-backs seem to be on the radar of Real Madrid, or that is at least what the suggestions in the media have been. One of them is Raphael Varane.

Varane spent a decade at Real Madrid before leaving for Manchester United in the summer of 2021. His place in Erik ten Hag's team is in question right now though and there have been suggestions that he could leave in January.

Real Madrid are not the only ones to be linked with the French World Cup winner though. As reported by SPORT, Bayern Munich would be in a position to put on the table the €20 million offer for which Manchester United would open the door to sign Varane.

Varane has appeared to slip down Ten Hag's pecking order this season and has not started a lot of games. He has had his fitness problems as well.

It must be pointed out though that Varane has been getting a few starts lately as Ten Hag looks to get Manchester United's season back on track. Some positive results have come in those games as well. They managed to draw 0-0 at Anfield against Liverpool and came back from two goals down to win 3-2 against Aston Villa.

Thus, it is very possible that Varane could still remain at Manchester United. Let's see what the future holds for the former Real Madrid centre-back.
