Real Madrid are assembling a fantastic squad for not only the present but also the future. The club have continuously brought in some of the most world-class youngsters from around the globe, all across the pitch. They deserve a ton of credit for succeeding with this strategy while many other teams have failed to do the same.

The likes of Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Jr and Aurelien Tchouameni, just to name a few, will no doubt be cornerstones of the Real Madrid project for many years to come. A few final pieces to the puzzle are rumoured to be arriving this summer in the form of Kylian Mbappe and Alphonso Davies.

Davies has been linked with a move to Real Madrid for some time now and this summer could finally be the time he arrives. His contract situation at Bayern Munich is up in the air and he has just over a year left on his deal.

However, a potential transfer for Davies means that Real Madrid might have too many options in the left-back position. With Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia already at the club, one of them would be expected to leave if the Canadian international does join in the summer.

As reported by AS, for Ancelotti, Mendy is “the best left-back in the world in defence". If proposals arrived for him, they would be heard. However, the manager is not convinced of that move.

Mendy has had a somewhat rocky time at Real Madrid since his arrival in the summer of 2019 for a transfer fee around €50 million. The Frenchman has had to deal with a number of injuries which have seen him being sidelined for weeks, even months, at a time.

However, this season, Mendy has put in a string of many top-notch performances. At this point in time, he is the best left-back at the club without a doubt.

The future of the left-back position at Real Madrid remains a debatable topic. If Davies does arrive in the summer that surely spells the end for one of Mendy or Garcia at the club. Who would it be?
