Real Madrid would have been disappointed that the game against Atletico ended in a 1-1 draw. They looked set to win the derby through a goal from Eder Militao but fell short in the final few minutes as Angel Correa scored deep into stoppage time to make sure that the points were shared. Carlo Ancelotti had more reasons to be worried coming out of the match though.

Injuries have been a thorn in Real Madrid's path for years now. They never seem to have anywhere near a full-strength team available.

Just recently, we saw Kylian Mbappe suffer an injury that will keep him out for at least a few weeks. And now, it looks like two others picked up problems in the recent Madrid Derby.

The two players in question are none other than Thibaut Courtois and Fran Garcia. As reported by beIN Sports, Ancelotti said in a press conference:

"Fran García has a nasty knock, and Courtois has a muscle problem. He’ll be evaluated tomorrow."

Courtois spent the majority of the 23/24 season out injured, only returning near the end of the campaign. Hopefully, the issue is much less serious this time around and he is back on the pitch soon.

Of course, Real Madrid know that they have a very capable backup option if Courtois were to need some time off. Andriy Lunin was one of the best goalkeepers in Europe last season, helping Los Blancos to a La Liga and Champions League double.

Lunin was expected to leave the club this summer or the next one, when his contract was set to run out. But in an unexpected turn of events, the goalkeeper signed a long-term extension with Real Madrid recently, even though he remains a backup option to Courtois for the time being and that should be the case for the foreseeable future.
