Casemiro made Manchester United claim to Real Madrid teammate

Casemiro is a Real Madrid legend who played an important part in five Champions League-winning campaigns for Los Blancos and won several more trophies during his time at Santiago Bernabeu. His exit from the club came almost out of the blue though, as the Brazilian international left in a €70 million deal to join Manchester United in the summer of 2022.

Not many people had expected Casemiro to leave Real Madrid, right after winning his fifth Champions League trophy with the club. On top of that, he joined Manchester United, one of the greatest clubs in the world but one that had struggled for almost a decade.

The move did confuse many. But perhaps Casemiro needed a change of scenery, having won everything possible at Real Madrid. Players are always looking out for new challenges.

Of course, the financial side of the equation might have played a part as well. As reported by the Daily Mail (via FootballTransfers), Real Madrid officials extended a final opportunity to Casemiro to reconsider his decision but he maintained his desire to join Manchester United. It is believed that upon learning of the offer, the Brazil international’s initial response to a Los Blancos teammate was:

"I can't believe how much they are going to pay me."

Casemiro has had an up-and-down time at Manchester United so far. He earned a lot of plaudits last season and was even being considered the best defensive midfielder in the Premier League by many.

But then, the Brazilian midfielder has faced some criticism in recent times and there has even been speculation about his future. He has been dealing with injury problems lately as well.
