Chelsea are struggling to find a way out of their bad run of form since their change in ownership. The club had made the decision to show Thomas Tuchel the exit door early last season and since then, it has been a steady decline for one of Europe's best teams. They finished 12th in the Premier League in the 2022/23 campaign and it would not be a surprise to see something similar this time too. Could a long-time Real Madrid target be the solution to their problems?

Chelsea have continued to sign youngsters despite their struggles on the pitch. It is a risky strategy for sure but the Blues seem to be showing no signs of budging from their 'project'.

The latest name on their radar seems to be that of Antonio Silva. The Benfica centre-back has been linked with Real Madrid numerous times but it is hard to see Los Blancos make a move of that magnitude in the middle of the season. In fact, they are not expected to make any signings in January.

As reported by A Bola (via Sport Witness), Chelsea made an attempt to sign Silva from Benfica with a €60m+ offer. But they found the door firmly closed on them.

Benfica are believed to have no interest in parting ways with Silva in the middle of the season. There is rumoured to be a €100 million releese clause in his deal though.

Of course, that is a significant transfer fee to shell out for any player, especially a 20-year-old centre-back. So, it remains to be seen if Chelsea return with another offer for the centre-back.

Real Madrid could do with a centre-back themselves. They have injuries in that position. On top of that, it is an aging backline as well, which could do with someone like Silva, who is considered one of the best young centre-backs in the world.
