Fabrizio Romano confirms why Leny Yoro chose Man Utd over Real Madrid
One of the biggest surprises of the summer was when Manchester United swooped in out of nowhere to sign Leny Yoro. For months, it had seemed like the Frenchman, dubbed the 'Next Raphael Varane', was going to end up at Real Madrid. But unfortunately, he chose a move to Old Trafford despite there being heavy interest from Los Blancos as well.
Yoro has made a nightmare start to life at Manchester United though. He suffered an injury in pre-season and the English giants are struggling right now, leading to question marks over the future of Erik ten Hag again. Unfortunately, this has been the story of the club for years now. A never-ending cycle they seem to be stuck in.
There have been many media outlets, mainly in Spain, who have suggested that the size of the contract was the only reason behind Yoro's decision to join Manchester United over Real Madrid. But it looks like there were other important factors at play as well.
As reported by CaughtOffside, speaking for his Daily Briefing column, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that it was more about how Manchester United convinced Yoro to join the club. The journalist said:
"It did seem that Leny Yoro would be signing for Real Madrid at one stage, but, for sure, Man United presented a long term project with him as a regular starter.
“Important player status immediately, complete trust for the long term and of course an important salary were also factors in how Man United signed Leny Yoro.
“These reasons were the key for Yoro to decide to accept Manchester United’s offer despite Real Madrid’s strong interest."

Real Madrid's record when it comes to identifying talents in recent years has been close to immaculate. So, it is more than likely that Manchester United have signed a top talent in Yoro here.
As for Real Madrid, they have shown that they are not ready to make a signing just for the sake of it. So, having missed out on Yoro, they did not sign a centre-back over the summer.
That has left them short of options at centre-back, with Nacho Fernandez leaving the club while David Alaba continues to recover from injury. Carlo Ancelotti is the master of getting the most out of the least options but the start to this campaign has been shaky, largely due to so many injury problems to important players.
