Kylian Mbappe remains in the headlines as the Frenchman is now free to discuss terms with clubs, as he is in the final six months of his contract with PSG. There have been suggestions that Real Madrid will make an offer to him this month but want the World Cup winner to make a decision quickly regarding his situation. If not, they might turn their attention elsewhere and look to sign someone else.
It is Mbappe who holds almost all of the cards right now though. Nothing has been completely ruled out yet.
Most people view Real Madrid as his most likely destination. For many years, he has been linked with a move to Santiago Bernabeu. Liverpool are believed to be serious contenders for Mbappe's signature as well though. And it is still possible that he could choose to continue on at PSG by signing an extension, like he did the last time around.
Amidst all this, Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the situation of Mbappe. While speaking to CaughtOffside for his Daily Briefing column, the transfer guru said:
"There’s a lot of focus on Kylian Mbappe now that it’s January and he is technically free to negotiate with foreign clubs for a move for next season. Still, I wanted to address some of the latest Real Madrid speculation here.
“Unfortunately, despite much being written about Mbappe’s situation, nothing is clear on this story yet. I’m not in the position to give any guarantee on when Mbappe will decide his future.
“The situation remains the same – Real Madrid are on it, PSG are pushing to sign new deal, and it’s absolutely open. Again, I keep repeating on Mbappe; it’s one to follow day by day. In my view, any predictions now make no sense."
Fabrizio Romano offers Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid news
So, it looks like the situation is still pretty open when it comes to the future of Mbappe. It would be a mistake to consider anything as a foregone conclusion already, because nothing really is for sure.
Of course, Mbappe would be a brilliant addition to any team in the world. He is considered amongst the very best currently.
His club career has stagnated in recent years though, as the likes of Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham seem to have moved ahead of him in the Ballon d'Or race. So, a change of clubs could do Mbappe well and what better one than the best club in the world, Real Madrid?
