Real Madrid made an incredible transfer in the summer, bringing in Jude Bellingham. The England international superstar has been one of the best players in the world this season and it highlights the incredible work from Carlo Ancelotti, Florentino Perez and the Real Madrid recruitment team to spot his talent and to build the team around his exploits.

However, in an alternative world, the transfer might not have happened...

Fabrizio Romano makes a superb Real Madrid transfer claim about Darwin Nunez

According to Fabrizio Romano, who spoke on his YouTube channel, Real Madrid actually came close to pursuing Darwin Nunez of Liverpool. If they hadn't succeeded in signing Jude Bellingham in the summer of 2023, it could have been the Liverpool star Darwin who represented Los Blancos this season.

In his own words, Fabrizio Romano said: “I can tell you that last summer in June, before completing the deal for Jude Bellingham, Real Madrid considered a possible move for Darwin Nunez"

Darwin Nunez has had a great season with Liverpool, scoring nine goals and providing seven assists in the Premier League so far. Although he isn't a nailed-on starter under Jurgen Klopp, his work is always appreciated by the faithful Kop when he plays.

Indeed, he is valued enough at Liverpool for Jurgen Klopp to decline the advances from Real Madrid, reports Fabrizio Romano. Clarifying the situation, Romano said: "Real Madrid tried to explore this move and it was discussed on both player and club side with Liverpool, but then Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool board decided to keep the player."

Darwin Nunez is just 24 years old and it remains to be seen whether he has a bright future at Anfield Stadium under their new management. For those who aren't aware, Jurgen Klopp is stepping down come the end of the season, so Liverpool must find a new manager, which could mean some changes at the club. While Darwin has done little to destroy his chances, he may or may not fit the new system.

Meanwhile, Carlo Ancelotti has decided on the future of Arda Guler.
